Continuum - John Mayer (Listen Now)
I really cannot stress enough to all of you how good this album really is. Having been a fan of John for quite some time now, and listened religiously to all of his previous work, it was an awesome find to get a sneak peak of this new album before it's released in September. It's been a long long time in the making, and with Steve Jordan (Rolling Stones) on drums and Pino Palladino (The Who) on bass and John himself on guitar, it's one of the most talented line ups there has been for a band in some time, and it shows.
The tracks are stunningly written, expertly produced by Mayer and Jordan and of the 12 tracks on the record, there really isn't one that I can say sounds rushed, incomplete or out of place.
From the "Too cool" groove of Vultures to the moving "Stop This Train", in which John sings of how getting old, losing your parents and facing the World on your own is something that's far too scary to think about but completely out of our control, the tracks never fail to deliver.
I never usually write or preach about CDs, but I really do emplore you all to give this a try, even if this isn't usually your sort of music. If you just want to click on the link and get a quick listen in, then try "Vultures" first to hear a hugely addictive groove then try one of the more thought out and richer songs such as "Belief", "I Don't Trust Myself" or "Dreaming with a Broken Heart".
In my opinion it's a masterpiece. A solid cohesion of soul, blues and pop which meld so well, that it's almost a new genre of it's own.
Just genius.
